Stealth frigate INS Tamal to be commissioned on July 1
INS Tamal: A stealth multi-role frigate, the last warship to be built outside India (Russia), commissioned on July 1, 2025, in Kaliningrad.
Class & Series: Eighth in the Krivak-class frigates; part of a broader contract including INS Tushil (7th in series).
Indigenous Content: 26% indigenous components, including BrahMos cruise missiles, with 33 Made-in-India systems.
Future Indigenous Ships: Two more frigates (Triput class) being built at Goa Shipyard Ltd. under Make in India with Russian technology transfer.
Features:
Enhanced stealth & stability.
125m long, 3,900-tonne displacement.
Joins Western Fleet post-commissioning.
Significance: Marks shift towards self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in defense; Navy to operate 10 similar-class ships across four variants.
It will be deployed under the Western Fleet, referred to as the "Sword Arm" of the Indian Navy.
