Context

The Indian Navy has commissioned INS Anjadip, the fourth indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at Chennai Port.

It was commissioned by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff.

Key Features

  • Length: 77 metres

  • Role: Detection, tracking and neutralisation of enemy submarines in coastal (littoral) waters

  • Built at: Kattupalli

  • Shipbuilder: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers

  • Named after: Historic Anjadip Island off Karwar coast
