  • Accused of orchestrating the Pahalgam terror attack (April 22) that killed 26 civilians and injured many.

Key Development

  • UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee’s Monitoring Team included TRF in its July 24 report.

International Recognition

  • U.S. State Department  designated TRF as:

    • Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO)

    • Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT)

India’s Stand

  • Sees TRF as part of Pakistan-based proxy terror outfits (LeT, JeM, etc.).

  • Under Operation Sindoor, India conducted cross-border strikes on terror camps in Pakistan.

  • Emphasis on cross-border terrorism threat from Pakistan.

UN Observations

  • One UN Member State linked the attack to LeT’s support for TRF.

  • Another stated TRF and LeT were functionally synonymous.

Significance

  • UN report gives global legitimacy to India’s claims.

  • Puts international spotlight on TRF’s role in regional instability.

  • Boosts India’s diplomatic stance against Pakistan-backed terror networks.

The committee's work focuses on measures like travel bans, asset freezes, and arms embargoes to limit terrorist activities.
