UPSC Prelims 2026

The UPSC Preliminary Examination is the first stage of the Civil Services Examination. It is objective in nature and serves as a screening test. Only those who qualify this round are eligible for the Mains examination.

Exam Pattern

  • Paper I - General Studies: 200 marks, 2 hours
  • Paper II - CSAT: 200 marks, 2 hours (Qualifying, minimum 33%)
  • Both papers are objective (MCQs) and conducted on the same day.
  • Negative marking: 1/3rd of the marks assigned to the question.
